About the book >.>.> With an abundance of time and nothing to do I decided to explore Japan and during my travels was asked to take on a number of small projects. With all the time in the world at my disposal I decided to live and work with local craftspeople. I found skilled and eager crafts- people wherever I went in Japan however deep into the mountains. After the financial collapse the government announced that the economy had hit rock bottom and Japan was in crisis. Yet meeting interesting craftspeople in various villages made me feel that Japan was not without worth. I felt that the country had huge potential and that I would be content to continue creating architecture together with the craftspeople of Japan no matter how small and modest our projects were. Japan’s period of recession in the 1990s was known as the “Lost Decade”. For me personally it was the most fulfilling decade of my life and those ten years had a transformative effect (MP)
