Just as each image within Singh’s body of work has connections to other works other ideas other thoughts other people and times so every thought of mine opens up a plethora of associations. Her oeuvre makes me look sideways upwards downwards backwards and forwards but never for long in just one direction. At the same time our extended dialogue makes it possible to create a patchwork of ideas thoughts perspectives themes and approaches; to circle around find points of connection and then circle back around. This text therefore does not have to be read from beginning to end. You can start wherever you would like to end where you would like to and then circle back around. You can even follow the underlined words in this essay to sidestep into the correlating chapters. In Singh’s newest series Let’s See (2021) the central motif is the importance of body and movement in the artist’s oeuvre. Or as Dayanita would say: “I am putting on my dance/body glasses. (LL)
