About the book >.>.> No becuase I still had not yet spawned the fish and before that happened a great deal of time was to pass and much money was to be spent on acquiring experi ence. When searching for suitable breeding pairs I soon found that this was a road set with snares and pitfalls. But even here obstinacy was rewarded. My prize was a real pair of Turquoise. After a fortnight the fishes courted and spawned. Almost hour by hour I went to the tank to see how many eggs were fungusing. This is really a fearful time for the Discus breeder. I was lucky. Many fry hatched from the first clutch. But my luck was to be of short duration. The same evening the fry became free-swimming they sud- denly disappeared. The solution to the riddle was the filter. It had simply sucked up the fry. The next spawn was not long in coming and this time everything ran to perfection. After five weeks I had fished more than 100 young Discus from the tank and trans- ferred them to a rearing aquarium. Many broods were to follow. Today the Discus is no longer a mystery to me but it is still the most fascinat- ing of aquarium-dwellers and the fish that gives the attentive keeper the most joy. (SP)
