About the book >.>.> THIS happy easy work was started in 1954 by some members of the Dorset Federation of Women’s Institutes and has spread rapidly round the world. especially in the Commonwealth countries and Africa. Like all good new things it is founded on the old. In this fifth edition of the book a few alterations and additions have had to be made and the old stitch known as “Buttonhole” is now called “Blanket stitch and Knotted Blanket stitch is new and much used. Here is embroidery that a moderate needlewoman can do. This does not mean of course that it can be done carelessly. Far from it. Care and accuracy are part of its beauty but the basic stitches are common- place and known to everyone and strangely enough it is as easy for left- as for right-handed people. Taking the old-fashioned Feather and Blanket stitches (of Nannel petticoat and calico nightdress days)… the Chain stitch Lazy Daisy and Fly stitch of good designs colour and surface overwhipping (LL)
