About the book >.>.> The hand soon gets accustomed to the work the stitches become rhythmic and almost automatic as soothing to do as knitting is for knitters. A delightful relaxation at the end of a tiring day. Experience has shown that a “Trial and Error” Sampler should be worked first and this applies to skilled and unskilled workers equally. This sampler need not be wasted for it is the foundation of the Dorset feather stitches which have next to be worked over it. After all this is done it should be mounted on a card with two paper-fasteners and covered with cellophane to help friends who want to learn too. The next piece of work should be something small and not too elaborate- table mat or simple apron for instance. Many people get so excited after working their sampler that they rush off and buy a large and expensive piece of material and iron on an elaborate transfer; but in due course this finds its way into the melancholy drawer of unfinished masterpieces. So-once again I do counsel you to curb your imagination and let the first piece of work be simple for while you embroider you will gain self-knowledge. Are you really enjoying it? Have you the patience for a large undertaking? When this work was first started we decided to call it “Feather Stitchery” playing about with feather stitches. (LL)
