The City of Southampton through the City Archives and Dr Susan Woolgar Collections Manager Southampton City Council kindly allowed the photocopying of the brokage books and publication of the data and archivists Susan Hill and Jo Smith were both extremely helpful. The GeoData Institute University of Southampton provided technological training and support linked the database to a Geographical Information System developed the website and ironed out the many glitches. Thanks are due to Chris Hill the director and Jason Sadler but above all to Julia Branson and Andy Murdock who provided essential support both throughout the entire project and more recently in supporting the authors running queries checking figures and producing the maps Andy Murdock created all the maps with advice from Joh Hare and Winifred Harwood.
