About the book >.>.> The reprinting of Fabric of Society has been a project very long in the making. When I started as curator at Platt Hall in 1985 following the ‘reign’ of Jane Toze and Sarah Levitt the book had just sold out at the Laura Ashley shops and we had never been allocated our own stock to sell at the Gallery. 25 years on and after a career at Platt Hall as long as Anne Buck’s I am delighted to welcome the book’s reprinting! This edition has been marginally revised to bring it up to date and has a few new images but in essence it remains the same scholarly a delightful informal catalogue of the collection created by Jane and Sarah in the early 1980s. Although the collection has expanded dramatically in the last 25 years it has n changed markedly for the period covered by Fabric of Society: 1770 to 1870. TH collection amassed by Dr Cunnington in the 1930s and purchased for Manches in 1947 was so strong for this century that it still dominates today. (SP)
