About the book >.>.> When God created the world and man he placed the latter in the Garden of Eden where there were trees of every kind. They were pleasing to look at and laden with delicious fruit. In the midst of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of knowl edge of good and evil. God gave Adam permission to eat the fruit of every plant except that of the tree of knowledge declaring that if he disobeyed he would surely die. Then God created woman as a companion for man. The serpent craftiest of all creatures asked Eve whether God had denied them the right to eat the fruit of all the trees in the garden. To this Eve replied that the only prohibited tree was in the inner garden and that eating its fruit would be lethal. But the serpent told her not to heed the Creator’s warning arguing that God was acting not from a desire to protect Adam and Eve but from fear that if they ate the fruit they would possess knowledge of good and evil and would thus become like God. Eve per- suaded by the serpent’s logic tasted the fruit of the prohibited tree and found it so delicious that she offered some to Adam. (SP)
