About the book >.>.> The son of French peasants Argy-Rousseau laid the basis for his artistic success at the Ecole de S?vres from 1902 to 1906. Here he adopted p?te de verre that curious substance which is half glass half ceramic as his chosen medium “since it enables the artist to express his every thought with ease.” The foundation of the Soci?t? Anonyme des P?tes de Verre d’Argy-Rousseau in Paris in 1921 ushered in an epoch of creative exuberance which spawned a profusion of vases bowls lamps sculptures and other decorative objects. The great craftsman used bold curves and simple decoration to shape designs inspired by antiquity nature and the total malleability of his material. His incomparable technical gifts innovative ideas and artistic sensitivity enabled him to produce a constant stream of highly original work. Only a few dozen pieces were produced from each mold making every item a valuable rarity. The career of this remarkable genius is retraced in detail: his education his inventiveness his artistic development his commercial success and his later difficulties during the Depression years. The process by which his p?tes de verre were produced from initial design to final molding is fully described. And a Catalogue Raisonn? illustrating almost 350 pieces shows the extraordinary diversity of Argy Rousseau’s inspiration. (MP)
