About the book >.>.> Father Faber founder of the London Oratory was one of the foremost figures in the “second spring” that great rebirth of English Catholic life which took place over a century ago. Known today throughout the English-speaking Catholic community as the author of “Faith of Our Fathers” and other popular hymns Faber was known primarily to his contem-poraries as a spiritual writer whose rich and forceful language restated the eternal truths of the Christian faith in a way that compelled them to reconsider their own fundamental assumptions and to deepen their awareness of what those truths implied for them in their day-to-day living. Growth in Holiness long out of print is con-sidered by many to be Father Faber’s greatest book. Its inclusion in the Orchard Books makes it available to the many people unacquainted with Faber who are inclined to dismiss him-usually on hearsay-as a sentimental Victorian author.
