About the book >.>.> As one of the two churchwardens of Hockworthy it had long been on my conscience that we had no churchyard plan as is required showing burials. I had envisaged a single sheet of paper. She claims that I had asked her to do this even before asking her to marry me; but when Susan Farrington joined me at Hole Farm after our marriage in September 2009 she kindly agreed to help and the project developed. She brought with her skills honed in cemeteries in the Indian Sub-Continent and other ex- colonial countries unique skills but much needed as many of our headstones are illegible or seemed so to those of us unpractised in such matters. Concurrently since arriving in the parish Sue has initiated what has now become an annual tradition. This is to research the life of one of those recorded on the parish War Memorial which is read out after the roll call at our Remembrance Day service in November. In the Devon Heritage Centre she found the manuscript archive of Major Jack Daniell churchwarden from 1979-1986. Mrs Mary Daniell his widow was happy for this material to be brought to public notice and the depositor the Borden Gate Parish Council has kindly granted permission for Sue to use this research for her survey.
