About the book >.>.> ST. AUGUSTINE was truly a remarkable person. Over sixteen centuries have passed since his birth in 354 A.D. and his conversion to the Catholic faith in 386. Though he was well known in the Church of his own times he is even better known and certainly more widely read today. There were those who disagreed with him when he was a bishop in North Africa – Pelagius for example was one of his more intellectual adversaries – and there are those who have disagreed with him and various aspects of his teaching in the centuries that have followed including our own. But the Church as a whole has given great credence to this brilliant insightful and very person- able man both during his lifetime and down through the centuries. As a matter of fact his influence is perhaps more forcefully felt now than in former times. One has only to think the way he was cited both explicitly and implicitly by the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council to understand this point.
