About the book >.>.> Alf Porter was born in Edgware in the summer of 1913 and has been interested in its history since he was a child. Chairman and Vice President of the Stanmore and Harrow Historical Society and committee member of the Stanmore Society he is married with two children five grand-children and is expecting to become a great grandfather later this year. Educated locally the author worked as a butcher’s roundsman in Edgware then for the family building firm before joining de Havilland on Gipsy engine test and later in the rocket division and then transferred to Rolls Royce as a senior engineer responsible for test facilities where he remained until retirement.
