About the book >.>.> This book is written as a homage to my friend Victor Musgrave whose early death from cancer deprived not only those of us who loved him of a rare and original spirit but also removed from the art world a man whose insistence on poetry and spontaneity was in so marked a contrast to all those who think of painting and sculpture as a fashionable commodity a form of visual stocks and shares. Hearing that he was ill but unaware how ill I went to visit him in one of those multi-storeyed new hospitals that resemble a modern hotel. I was shocked by his frail almost transparent appearance but touched by his courage and humour his luminous and undiminished intelligence. I was also amused to find that his manipulative abilities never directed to his own advantage always to furthering and promoting what he believed in ? were in no way impaired.
