The quilts feature the Kaffe Fassett collection of fabrics to which have been added new designs by Amy Butler whose striking compositions are a delightful addition to the range and whose work is the subject of the designer profile. Other new designs in the collection include those of Philip Jacobs and Carla Miller. Styled by Kaffe and photographed by Debbie Patterson in Portugal. many of the quilts are shown against the background of the fabulous glazed tiles and unique architecture of Santa Catarina castle and the tiled walls of buildings in Porto and Lisbon. Kaffe loves these vast blue and white panels which can be seen from the street and are unique to Portugal and he designed the Framed Jor and Delft Star quilts especially to compliment this setting. In his Introduction he explains how he designs taking motifs and ideas from sources such as his collection of china or artefacts that he sees on his travels and translating them into fabric designs. His mixture of floral patterns and the lush floral prints of English textile designer Philip Jacobs combine to produce quilts that while looking wonderfully exotic have also been described as “an English garden in a blender”.
