The singular thing that these quilts have in common is that they are all original designs. I know this because I watched them being made. Each of these capable women began with a seed of an idea that she nurtured working out the design and construction issues as she went. I became a quiltmaker because I absolutely fell in love with antique quilts; they were and have continued to be the biggest influence on my work. Their unique artistic characteristics eventually propelled me toward a more intui- tive scrappy way of working that developed into what I now call Liberated Quiltmaking.
