About the book >.>.> Welcome to Volume Five of our Luftwaffe Crash Archive series which covers the final days of the Battle of Britain and the early stages of The Blitz. By this phase of the Battle heavy daylight raids by bombers had more or less been Hiscontinued as their crews were tasked with the new challenge of bombing London and other British cities by night. This was a far safer environment for the bombers as British air defences at night were woefully inadequate in 1940. One only has to look through this volume to see that out of 150-200 bombers roaming over the UK on any given night only handful were shot down. (LL)
