About the book >.>.> With the switch to mainly nocturnal operations and the general reduction in activity the RAF intelligence officers of Altg) had time to study aircraft wreckage in more detail and the interrogators of Al(k) to report of the men and units. The RAF was also beginning to leam more about the Luftwaffe’s ‘Beam Bombing systems famously Knickebein as reported on page 716. In future volumes the reader will notice that there are fewer incidents reported upon but that the reports themselves contain far more detail. Another result of the switch to night operations was a significant reduction in the amount of intact airframes to investigate. Finding suitable fields to force land into was hard enough in daylight but at night it was practically impossible Any crippled bomber was usually therefore abandoned by its crew at altitude leaving just a succession of smoking holes for the investigators to study.
