About the book >.>.> JYNN CHADWICK is one of Britain’s foremost international artists. Although one of the most original and vital of the impressive group of sculptors to emerge after the second world war his achievements have often been underestimated in this country. Overseas the story is very different; Chadwick has exhibited in most major international galleries and museums and continues to attract the attention of prominent collectors. The formidable body of work he has produced since 1951 is remarkable for its development and consistency and these qualities are evident in the works which have been selected for this exhibition. Chadwick has always enjoyed the practical and technical problem solving aspects of sculpture-making. He is self-taught and through single-minded determination has mastered and invented technical procedures which are used to construct powerfully evocative images. Some time ago Sir Alan Bowness wrote “Much of Chadwick’s work invites metaphysical speculation; he has a sculptor’s remarkable power to make images that have symbolic values images that we know mean something to us without understanding why Since 1947 Chadwick has lived and worked in the countryside.
