About the book >.>.> My approach is to show you some approaches. Most projects will take just a few minutes to try. Make preliminary models (“dummies”) from scraps and recycled stuff-junk mail cereal boxes the backs of paper from your printer. These are your doodles on the back of an envelope. (In this book projects attributed to EKS are quick pieces I’ve made as teaching demos.) When you are comfortable with the basics design your pieces and choose your materials. Buy expensive handmade papers continue recycling or use something in between-nice art paper or high-end office paper. Find inspiration everywhere-from shoe boxes (see how they’re made!) to magazine ads. (There was a giveaway paper thing in a Polly-O? string cheese bag when my kids were little can’t remember where I put it but I know I didn’t throw it out!). Go to museums libraries’ special collections and historic societies. Liz Zanis who illustrated this book and made many project samples works in the Prints Study Room at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. It is open to the public by appointment. You can sit at a table with Rembrandt and Picasso prints. I went to see the Anonymous stuff: the valentines cigarette enclosures and the Shaker women’s paper art. (LL)
