About the book >.>.> At the end of June 1945 AJS announced the 348 cc 16M and 497 cc 18 models while the G3L and G80 Matchless equivalents arrived in July. All were based on the pre-war ranges which had crystallized during the war into the G3 and the G3L with Teledraulic front forks. All models followed a very traditional English form and differed only in that the AJS had its magneto in front of the cylinder while the Matchless had it tucked in behind. Timing cover tank badges and transfers just about completed the variations. Both engine sizes shared a 93 mm stroke which was to stay with them for a number of years. Early in 1946 a small number of competition models in both marques and engine sizes were built. having a letter C suffix added to their type number. There were few changes from standard but the tyres and mudguards were more suited to trials work and the silencer end was tilted up. In addition the gearing was lowered and the lights removed. (SP)
