About the book >.>.> My paintings are derived from diverse sources and influences including autobiographical events urban incidents archetypal stories photographs memory and intuition. You only have to look at his artistic output to see how true this statement is. Memory and intuition. This phrase resonated with me when thinking about a title for the catalogue and exhibition. It made me think about how each of us who knew him in whatever capacity hold him in our memories and how intuitively it was clear that 2018 was the year to bring us all together to celebrate his work and his amazing creativity 10 years after his untimely death and on the anniversary of what would have been his 60th birthday. This catalogue and exhibition have only happened because Simon remains part of us all. He lives on in the memories of all the people who knew him and loved him who laughed with him and bore the brunt of his sharp wit who made music with him and sang and played with him who cooked with him and ate with him who shared their lives with him and supported him through his last days. All of us have come together to remember a man who we are lucky enough to have with us still who continues to reach out to us through his artistic vision and his wonderful collection of paintings drawings sketch books etchings and found objects. Bobbie Rebecca and I hope that you will enjoy this exhibition of Simon’s work and that his intuition for what was beautiful alive vibrant and challenging in the world continues to keep his memory with us close at hand.
