About the book >.>.> In a previous monograph on Post-Roman Carlisle and the Kingdoms of the North- West the objective was to show that the British hegemony from the central isthmus of Scotland to Elmet and Gwynedd evolved from late Roman foreign policy. This was further expanded by the Prolegomena to a Re-Appraisal of Early Christianity in Man Relative to the Irish Sea Province. The present thesis widens the scope so as to concatenate the Irish aspects of this northern axial milieu which profoundly affected church and state over many centuries. The subject is approached from a study of the factors which led to British nationalism in the north and west of the former Roman diocese where policies were dominated by that of the unitas Catholica in the closing decades of the fourth century. Diplomacy created ecclesiastical ambassadors to regions beyond the former limites whose venue was directly related to prehistoric trade routes between the northern half of Ireland and northern Britain which was a pro- silient factor in the subsequent evolution of the Gaelic Celtic Church directly related to Hy Ireland and the Anglo-British state of Northumbria. In these evolutionary changes the great British dynasty of Strathclyde and those of Coel Hen’s descendants were closely involved including the reguli of the Isle of Man and from the union of these princely families of British origin descended all the subsequent kings of Wales to 1282 and the Tudor dynasty.
