About the book >.>.> MINERALOGIA CORNUBIENSIS was the first great classic devoted to Cornish mining and is quoted more often perhaps than any other work on the subject. Certainly it is regarded as the standard book for its period; without it there would be an immense gap in our knowledge of Cornwall’s premier industry in the eighteenth century and it has been called with some justification the Cornish De Re Metallica. Written some years prior to its publication in 1778 its author was William Pryce a surgeon from Redruth connected himself with mining and knowledgable in all its branches. A second and revised edition projected and advertised in 1810 did not in fact materialise-a considerable loss to Cornish published history. To William Pryce we are indebted for what is still the greatest single storehouse of practical knowledge on Cornish mining and metallurgy prior to the nineteenth century. (MP)
