About the book >.>.> There is perhaps no better moment to write about Mit Jai Inn than in these emotional times when the Thai people especially those of the younger generations have collectively stood up to protest the authoritarian powers of the military regime that have oppressed them for so long and to demand a reform of the monarchy. I was asked to pen this article about Mit’s role and direction within the field of Thai contemporary art along with his contributions towards various creative communities throughout the years. Needless to say it doesn’t stop there: Mit’s influence has extended far beyond the realm of art. As such I find it fitting to provide an alternative perspective of the artist to see beyond what we already know him to be. Whilst renowned within the international art industry for his abstract paintings Mit is known within his native Thailand as a man shrouded by rumours. In my days as a fledgling art student talk abounded about this audacious artist who dared to criticise the works of the late nationalist artist Thawan Duchanee (1939- 2014) through poetry copies of which he presented to then-Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai. The entire situation escalated all the way to court (though the artist himself prefers not to speak of these events). Mit went on to exhibit and sell his works at the Venice (LL)
