About the book >.>.> I left my home town Whitstable on 3 September 1939 at nineteen years of age to work and live in Highbury North London. I have been back many times to see relations and friends and to stay with my sister in nearby Herne Bay and had lived there again for a sho period in the late 1940s. A few years ago on one of my visits I began to think back to what life had been like in this small seaside town between the wars – the time when I was a child and young woman. I hadn’t realised how much it had changed until I compared it with my schoolfriends’ memories and so I decided to walk along the streets that I knew so well and note in detail the changes that had inevitably taken place.
