The writer came to Christ by a winding way and the stains of travel are upon her garments. The practice of the New Psy- chology especially psycho-analysis gave a certain understanding of human consciousness and supplied a vocabulary. The study of Theosophy New Thought Spiritualism and other similar movements gave a new outlook on life. From these different schools of thought she withdrew successively because of fundamental differences in out- look and certain camels that could not be swallowed but which it is needless to specify here. Nevertheless there were inestimable things for which she was indebted to these teachings and they sent her back to the Christian Creed with an entirely new concept of its significance and a new understanding of the manner in which it could be approached. The concept of an esoteric aspect to the great religions of the East set her seeking a similar aspect in the religion of the West; this she found both in the writings of the great mystics of the Christian faith and in personal experience. The mystical Christianity of the saints is the esotericism of the Christian church. (LL)
