About the book >.>.> The series of volumes on religious life and its modern application which began with the French Directoire des Super- ieures (in the English volume Religious Sisters) here becomes more ambitious. These symposia are made up of the papers read at meetings convened by the Editor of La Vie Spirituelle to discuss the problems of the nun’s vocation today; and at first the group was made up exclusively of clergy who had experience of the sisters and their work as well as of their vocation. But at the meeting which discussed the fundamental question of obedience P?re Pl? the Editor widened the membership and extended the scope of the meeting. So in this volume will be found the reports of the sisters themselves as well as of the theologians. A great deal of the historical and theological exposition regarding obedience will be found to be of the utmost importance to all religious whether men or women. But the applications consider the exact problems of modern religious sisters some of which indeed may seem to be applicable exclusively to the French scene. The practical experience however of these writers will be found to be of great interest to the English reader too and will prove of great help in applying the principles to the English or American context.
