About the book >.>.> The story of the Selous Scouts was written in 1980. As the Rhodesian War had only just reached a conclusion it was deemed politic to exercise prudence particularly regarding names and faces in order to protect Selous Scout personnel. However contrary to expectations the new Zimbabwean government honoured its Lancaster House pledge. And far from seeking to exact retribution it actually reached out to reconcile past differences between the opposing forces. The Selous Scout Regiment became the Zimbabwe Parachute Regiment which is now regarded as the top unit in the present Zimbabwean Army. The Selous Scout Regiment was formed with the express purpose of eliminating ZANLA and ZIPRA insurgents by clandestine means. The Selous Scouts’ success in this field can be gauged by the fact that they were officially credited by the Rhodesian Combined Operations Headquarters for being directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of 68% of all insurgents killed within Rhodesia during the course of the war. Losses suffered by the Selous Scouts amounted to less than forty. While the Regiment was in being its members earned an incredible number of decorations including the first of only two Grand Crosses of Valour awarded during the war. These awards and the original citations have been included in the appendices at the end of this book. This is the first time that the Selous Scout citations have ever been published. (MP)
