About the book >.>.> One fall day in 1971 the telephone rang. It was Professor Bruno Zevi and he was shouting at me. “Sartogo how can you construct a build- ing a few yards from my house without letting me know? I’m calling you from a public phone on the sidewalk near the project. You’ve got to come here at once!” Zevi for me was a legendary figure in Italian architecture. Until then I knew him only from his writings and from a few lectures I attended at the University of Rome. The telephone call seemed important it even worried me. So I immediately went by motorcycle to Via Giovanni Battista De Rossi where the new building for the Rome Medical Association was just peeking out from its scaffolding. A few minutes later I found myself standing on the sidewalk next to an animated gesticulating figure wearing a large bow tie. I found the great critic stopping passersby grabbing them by the arm point- ing up to the building and asking them “Isn’t it beautiful? Isn’t it beautiful?” This scene repeated itself several times as I stood by a somewhat dumbfounded spectator. At a certain point Zevi turned to me and hugged me saying “Let’s go onto the site. I want to see everything.” We crawled in and out of spaces all over the building from the foundation to the roof walking up and down the stairs several times. (MP)
