About the book >.>.> When this volume was started in early 1979 we redrew all the passenger car outlines that had been collected from CNR and VIA Rail; in 1980 a visit was made to Montreal and following a review of our material by VIA staff a few more drawings were needed. With these drawings we completed a 160 page book which included updates on Volumes 1 to 3 and was ready to print in the Spring of 1981. Two things hap- pened to upset this plan; the writer did not expect to spend three months overseas on a construction project nor did he anticipate his complaints of poor eyesight would end up with a cataract operation in December 1982. The delay in publishing resulted in additional photos being made available; reviewing these photos produced a few surprises. Cars not listed on the rosters we had kept cropping up. More research and more drawings required we almost thought it would never end. The result of the increased number of drawings and photos is a 160 page volume which is all VIA Rail. The updates and other data which was typeset and ready to print are now combined with drawings and rosters for the Budd RDC Cars operated in Canada into a fifth volume which won’t take much longer to complete. The drafting of the car diagrams and paste-up of the typeset data on each page proved to be a mammoth task in comparison to our previous volumes but worth- while when we reviewed the finished material.
