About the book >.>.> For the past three years I’ve been involved in a study group with women from the greater Boston area. Part of what we have been concerned with is how create a new kind of ethnography-that is a qualitative study where the author’s voice and those of her respondents are situated more completely for the reader. New conventions in how we present ourselves and our respondents have also challenged us to rethink ethical issues surrounding social research. This collec tion will hopefully challenge the reader to reconsider research projects in light of the ideas and criticisms raised by the contributing authors. As we puzzle through the problematics and the new conventions of ethno- graphic writing two issues are at the forefront: reflexivity and voice. They are the subject of this edited book which has as its basis a special issue I put together for the journal Qualitative Sociology. This book is a significant expansion of that special issue and it is intended to address the concerns of contemporary writers of ethnographies. (LL)
