About the book >.>.> We stroll about the town pass a building with a columned portico a thread of Greek among the Gothic the Fitzwilliam Museum. The Fitzwilliam! The word taps gently on a dusty wicket of my mind. Ricketts has been dead four years. Shannon is under the care of the Master in Lunacy. All that rare and beautiful companionship is gone for ever. .. Yet do I not re-member a phrase spoken some time somewhere at random “We’re leaving most of the treasure to the Fitzwilliam.” We go in. There sure enough is the sign “To the Ricketts and Shannon Rooms.” Now the past comes crowding and I hurry down the corridor. There they all are the things I have known for years! The noble Greek vases the flying Tanagras the bronze men (handles of an urn) arched back like swallow divers the wooden duck with sliding wings (rouge for an Egyptian queen) the ivory monkey minus one leg smaller than my finger; I can see it lying in the palm of his small hand-“Look my dear boy every hair.” Then the drawings; the Watteaus the Fragonards that superhuman Rubens head that Angel by Tiepolo the Rembrandt cartoon.
