When the leading lady of a musical comedy has reached the last stretch of her song and the chorus comes on to back her up in a dance it may sometimes occur to you to compare her steps with theirs and wonder how she would fare if she had to qualify for a place in the back row. Acts depending primarily on sheer physical skill still form the bulk of the programme in the circus though there is plenty of danger and sensation too but it is becoming harder to find them in the variety hills the touring revues and even the pantomimes. The incursion of radio acts real or alleged that rely on sound rather than sight has done a lot to give them out.
