About the book >.>.> In the early days of the Second World War the author was seconded from the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders to the War Office for Intelligence duties; from there he was recruited by General Gubbins into Auxiliary Units – that legendary British Underground organisation of which little is known or talked about even today. Subsequently he joined General Gubbins in Special Operations Executive – whose main task was to fan the flame of resist- ance in enemy occupied territories. Hamilton-Hill was second-in-command of the SOE training schools. He then be- came operational. His first task was to recruit and train in strict secrecy a team of Spanish speaking guerilla experts he is bilingual in Spanish ready to para- chute into Spain if Hitler invaded that country. Hitler stayed out and Hamilton- Hill moved to Tunisia where he established and commanded the operational base whence men and supplies were parachuted into the Balkans. He then went to Sicily Italy and the island of Vis off the Dalma- tian coast as number two to the famous Colonel Jack Churchill. Vis became a joint Allied-Partisan fortress and was the scene of many raids launched against the neigh- bouring German-held islands. (SP)
