About the book >.>.> The strategic value of Ultra military intelligence derived from German Enigma signals has been recognised as a result of excellent books by Ralph Bennett Gordon Welchman Ronald Lewin and others but until now it has not been demonstrated how the army intercept units close to their HQs provided battle-winning intelligence to the Allied commanders and the extent to which those sections intercepted Enigma round the Mediterranean to order sending back the enciphered messages to Cairo and the U.K. On many occasions the skilled operators could inform the general by use of D/F where the formation HQs of the enemy were located and whether they were about to move without even inter- cepting a message. Montgomery and others came to rely heavily on their expertise. The reader will be astounded to read that the British and French governments knew well in advance the dates of every “surprise” invasion by Hitler’s armies in the Rheinland Austria Czechoslovakia Poland and France and the detailed plans and composition of the armies direct from the Panzer leader himself and he may well ask: Why did they not stop him much earlier and so avoid a world-wide conflict? The contributions of the U.S.. Canadian Polish Australian units have been recorded along with an insight into the remarkable success of the German Army intercept service and for the first time the ULTRA intercepts of May-June 1940 (before and after Dunkirk) and the part played by the intercept units in the Burma War.
