About the book >.>.> Sri Guru Granth Sahib plays a very important part in the life of the Sikh Community. It is read regularly in Gurdwaras (Sikh temples) and occa-sionally in homes on happy or sad occasions. The reading of the whole Granth is called Akhand-paath (non-stop recitation or reading). Selections for morning and evening prayers are taken from the Granth and read daily by Sikhs. The whole life of a Sikh revolves around this book. Despite being such an important book for the whole Sikh Community it is also true that the Granth is a closed book for many Sikhs born outside India as well as for the majority of other people both Asians and Westerners who simply cannot read the original Gurmukhi script of the Granth or understand its meaning. They simply do not know what the big book contains. Hence they are deprived of its riches. This publication aims to enable the reader to find out about the main con-tents of the Granth. To this end a large number of quotations have been selected from the Granth and arranged under theological headings. The book is arranged according to theological subjects with short introduc-tions to each topic followed by quota-tions from the Adi-Granth. The selec-tion is limited to the Adi-Granth and the Gurus only so the contributions to the Granth of other writers like Kabir Farid and Nam Dev are sadly not included. Perhaps in future a detailed study. (LL)
