About the book >.>.> About the Fibre Art Movement The year 1960 although it has no significance in itself serves well ms a date by which to pinpoint the entry into full maturity of the art movement with which this book is concerned. It is the movement in which artists some trained as painters or sculptors and some beginning from a textile discipline have found fibre thread and textile-based constructions the most satisfactory and ometimes the only satisfactory medium through which they could Fully express themselves. It has been slowly germinating for forty years or so and has been closely allied to movements in other art media. All have been breaking with tradition. Paintings in the bo’s at first became vast and then three-dimensional so did works in fibre. Sculpture and painting both have gone beyond the usual confines of the media and for long have used any method or material which is germane to the artist’s intent-so have the works in fibre. The movement may now be said to be at its height and some of the most forceful art statements of the mid-20th century are the result. (MP)
