About the book >.>.> The Banjara are some of the most visible and yet most mysterious people in India Distinctively dressed in their astonishing finery Banjara women are unmistakab figures in the landscape or nowadays on building sites yet few people know muc about them. Further confusion arises from the different names by which the are or have been known – are the Banjara synonymous with the Lambanis fa example or would they be offended to be lumped together? When we admire the textiles more uncertainty abounds as there are very visually different types o textile that are all labelled ‘Banjara’ and yet are clearly made by different groups Since the 17th century some authors have attempted to define the Banjara an to describe their clothing and jewelry and certain facts about them are now we known such as their origins in the caravans that provided Mughal armies with sal grain and other necessities. Their striking embroideries are included in most books on Indian textiles but they are almost invariably dealt with in a few sentences (I plead guilty here myself) or at most allocated a chapter in a broader book.
