The question of whether the ascendant is more or less impor- tant than the Sun sign has been answered only vaguely because a clear definition of the ascendant has never really been made. Most students see the ascendant as merely that part of the chart that influences one’s physical appearance or that governs one’s personal view of life. The ascendant has traditionally been viewed as the way in which we find per- sonal expression through the ego. We think of the ego as our conception of self. If we look a little bit deeper we realize how much our conception of self is based on our effective relationship between our being and the outer world in which it tries to manifest.
