About the book >.>.> A SAVE-OUR-PLANET BOOK THE PROFITS GO TO CONSERVATION What is a BIOTOPE AQUARIUM? A biotope aquarium is a natural aquarium. What do we mean by a natural aquarium? We mean an aquarium which imitates the habitat (environment) in which the fish lives in its natural range in the wild. Why do we want a biotope aquarium? It is very difficult to spawn aquarium fishes which were collected in the wild and which were not kept in a biotope aquarium. Examples of this are: GOURAMIS. Gouramis are air breathers. They usually build a bubblenest on the surface of the water. If you have an aquarium with heavy aeration there is so much agitation on the surface they could not build their nest. MALAWI AND TANGANYIKA CICHUDS. These cichlids usually hide amongst rocks and many spawn in caves. Without these rocks the fish are in a unnatural habitat and will probably fight and kill each other. TETRAS. Gentle fishes like the cardinal tetra Paracheiro- don axelrodi love heavily planted tanks so they can spawn and hide in the dense vegetation. In an open tank they would lose their color and probably never spawn. (MP)
