About the book >.>.> Louis Duchesne divided common prayer into three types: litany prayers collective prayers and Eucharistic prayers. As the name suggests the second type involves the assembly who are invited to pray by the officiating minister. After this pe- riod of silent prayer the officiant expressed in a short forrpu- lary the content of the prayers of the assembly and Lase congregation responded with Amen. These short prayers or orationes are a peculiarity of the Roman rite. It contains three of them the collecta the prayer super oblata which became known as the secreta and the post communio. 2 The form is al- ready fully developed in the so-called Leonine Sacramentary. It has two other prayers one probably said at the spreading of the cloth on the table and one super populum. The Leonine Sacramentary is not a true sacramentary but a libellus missa- rum. (LL)
