Secondly improvements are made in the Kalendar and Lectionary; several Collects are retouched; in the Communion Service the notices are placed before the sermon and the second Exhortation before the first; the order of the service of Private Baptism is altered; and the Burial Service is extensively remodelled. Besides many minor emendations through- out the book the Ordinal which received only sketchy treatment in FC is now thoroughly revised. These additions and alterations continue and supplement the revision of DB already carried out in FC. The third class however runs counter to the original intentions of DB; but it can be seen as the logical continuation of the policy already observable in DB and FC of reducing the number of changes. Without completely surrendering to Parliament’s demand for the restora- tion of the 1604 book the Convocation revision swings back even further in that direction. The axe falls most heavily upon the Communion Service where the changes were both numerous and important. (MP)
