About the book >.>.> As Chairman of the Hammersmith United A. S. I was well placed to make an effort to remedy the ills that held back the desired success of angling clubs. I fortunately had the assistance of the Secretary of the Society who had a heart of gold-in fact no sacrifice of time was too great for Thomas Hoole so that together we essayed to break the chains that bound up angling clubs hand and foot. Rivers were being depleted rail travel was expensive and worst of all the poorer members of societies were constantly being asked to support numerous appeals to aid distressed members of other angling clubs. This was a drain on the regular attend- ance of clubs and was the primary reason that prevented the development of angling societies. (SP)
