About the book >.>.> This book is the work of two married couples closely acquainted for many years. The writings of three of them are here; the contribution of the fourth in advice and encouragement is both imperceptible and incalculable. The poems derive from similar backgrounds and often from shared and mutually illuminating experiences so that in spite of the varied forms and subjects the three voices may be heard as an ensemble. And just as a musical ensemble is heard as an indivisible performance. the poems are printed here in the almost – random order of the first-line alphabetical order so eliminating the intrusion of individual authorship. The perceptive reader however will soon distinguish from differences of style and less surely of subject matter three distinct voices giving diversity to the whole collection. Mary Harvey was born in Cambridge in 1930. She taught in Coventry and later moved with her husband to a smallholding in south-east Cornwall where they brought up their four children. She is a member of the Liskeard Poetry Group and has worked as an Adult Education Tutor. The Wilkinsons grew up in Preston attending brother and sister schools. Joyce served in the war in a military hospital and Dick in the army in India. They brought up their three children in north-west England where Dick worked as a woodman. He has published a selection of early poems and a dictionary of traditional metaphors (Routledge). (LL)
