About the book >.>.> A wealth of literature describes the romantic history of Cornish mining through the centuries but detailed information upon the geology workings and mineral production is scattered through journals and papers both published and unpublished. This Memoir draws together summarizes and interprets such data presenting it in an easily referable form under individual property titles arranged by districts. Volume I is introduced by a generalized account of mineral emplacement and the occurrence of the more important economic minerals. Summaries of the salient features of each district and sub-district precede the detailed descriptions and comprehensive references quote original sources of information. Since the first printing of this work in 1956 South-West England has witnessed a revival of interest in its mineral deposits. Modern methods of geochemical and geophysical prospecting followed by diamond drilling have explored the potentialities of long abandoned properties. These efforts have culminated in an announcement that Wheal Jane (incorporating Wheal Jane West Wheal Jane and Nangiles Mine) will be brought into production. It is particularly regrettable that the author Mr. H. G. Dines did not live long enough to appreciate the extensive use made of his two volumes during the early phases of exploration. Upon the information and from the references contained within these covers many projects have been and will be launched.
