About the book >.>.> The intention T of this little book is to provide a short informal commentary on the Eucharistic Liturgy which shall emphasize its organic character the spiritual and theological significance of its successive phases and the necessary part that is played by each in the building up of this the central act of Christian worship. The arrangement follows the great outlines of the Eastern and Western liturgies whilst adhering more or less closely to the structure of the Anglican rite. In the hope that the book may be of practical use to those who are in sympathy with its point of view I have added to each section some illustrative passages from the ancient service-books; which give devotional expres- sion to the principles here studied and so may help the reader to link his own meditations with those of the universal Church. In preparing these texts I am of course indebted to the work of many liturgic scholars; and particularly to that of the late Rev. Arthur Linton whose beautiful collection of Twenty-five Consecration Prayers is well known to students. I have to thank the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge the owners of the copyright for permission to quote freely from this work. (LL)
