Yet in the lives and fortunes of A Company 2nd Battalion Rangers and its 65 soldiers myself included and three officers this day was very different. It was a moment of great meaning that would alter our lives forever. In truth we were preparing for a hazardous and dangerous boat ride that was destined to take us across the Atlantic Ocean and thereafter on a journey through seven European countries?a trip that would end World War II and while bringing us glory would bring death and destruction to the enemy. That day word had come down to us that we were to embark; we were to leave our homeland for new and distant places.
