About the book >.>.> The tombs and tabernacles supplied by his shop established types that became standard in Italy for the remainder of the century. Yet until now there has been no book-length study of Bernardo’s sculpture and few at- tempts to distinguish his hand from those of his assistants. In this book nine works of monumental sculpture are fully discussed. A corpus of over 150 photographs makes visible for the first time portions and details of monuments often virtually invisible from the ground and many never photographed before. The historical circumstances surrounding the commissioning and execution of each of Bernardo’s sculptures are explored and frequently reinterpreted sometimes on the basis of newly discovered documents. The iconography stylistic sources and influence of the works are also discussed in detail. A thorough stylistic examination of each work leads to the separation of works designed and executed by the master of the shop from those delegated to assistants. The book concludes with a catalogue raisonn? a synopsis of all documents relat- ing to Bernardo Rossellino and his four brothers a transcription of all previously published documents pertaining to Ber- nardo’s sculpture and twenty-two newly discovered documents of biographical.
