About the book >.>.> His Royal Highness particularly examined every part of the Machinery. He first went into the tunnel and saw a boat intro- duced into the body of the Caisson with two or three men in it when the door of the Caisson was closed and that of the Cistern drawn up in its place. In a few minutes after his arrival from the tunnel the Caisson began to ascend and in less than two minutes reached the top of the water. His Royal Highness then hastened to the spot opposite the upper door whence in a few minutes more he had the satisfaction of seeing the boat taken out with the men in it. The doors were again closed and the machine depressed and elevated several times to show the great command which the Manager had of it. His Royal Highness condescended to converse very familiarly with Mr. Weldon on the principles of the Caisson and to express his entire approbation of it; notwithstanding a continued rain during the whole performance the Prince’s attention was so much engaged by the rapid succesion of interesting objects that he was regardless of the weather and of the many inconveniences to which the slippery state of the soil exposed him.
